Erasing Intimacy

Erasing Intimacy is an art installation that explores the notion of contemporary nomadism where people without permanent residence — like refugees, immigrants and expats — meet in their common search for a home — for privacy and intimacy. The stress resulting from their constant “being on the road" demanding warmth & hospitality and silence & isolation makes the core of this three-part art installation. One part consists of a ‘territory’ made up of blankets collected from the many people who have hosted the artist during her nomadic existence. The second part is two wax sculptures in the shape of an ear canal. The third part is a takeaway journal that reveals an intimate story.

This project was realised as part of the Globe Aroma Home & Away project (2010) curated by Ann Van de Vyvere, and exhibited at Museum M, Leuven (BE) in 2013; Les Halles de Schaerbeek, Brussels (BE) in 2012; Enterfestival, Ghent (BE) in 2011; Les Halles de Schaerbeek, Brussels (BE) in 2011; Kaaitheater, Brussels (BE) in 2010; Art & History Museum, Brussels (BE) in 2010.
